Frequently Asked Questions

Yellow Brick Road (YBR) Benefit Shop - Volunteer FAQs

How do I apply to volunteer?

You can apply online at https://www.yellowbrickroadbenefitshop.org or call us directly at (831) 626-8480.

Is there an age limit to volunteer?

We welcome volunteers of all ages, including high school and college students.

Can I get school credit if I volunteer with YBR?

Yes! Students who volunteer can get school credit and are responsible to complete the required school paperwork. YBR staff will sign off on students’ volunteer hours.

How will I know if I am accepted as a volunteer?

Once you apply, the YBR Volunteer Coordinator will contact you to set up an orientation.  After the orientation is completed, you can then sign the Volunteer Acceptance form, decide on which positions at the shop appeal to you, and set up your volunteer schedule.

Can I change jobs while working at YBR?

Of course! We encourage our volunteers to rotate jobs because it strengthens our ability to serve our customers and because it makes the volunteer experience more interesting for you.

Is there a minimum number of hours?

We ask new volunteers to accept a three-month commitment with Yellow Brick Road. This involves working two 3-hour shifts each month. Volunteers choose their shift times: either 10am-1pm or 1pm-4pm. We have found that most new volunteers are happy to continue this schedule, and many ask for additional shifts!

Who will I ‘work’ for at Yellow Brick Road?

Volunteers work with YBR staff members and other volunteers.  Our staff always tries to match the needs of Yellow Brick Road Benefit Shop with a volunteer’s talents and interests.
